Danby, Vermont
Rutland county. Situated near the head waters of Otter creek, 17 miles S. from Rutland, and 68 S.S.W. from Montpelier. First settled 1768. Population, 1830, 1,362.—The surface of the town is rough and mountainous, but productive of extraordinary feed for cattle. Some of the best dairies in the country are in Danby. Large quantities of butter and cheese, of superior quality, are annually sent to market. There are some curious caverns in this town,—one of great depth.
