Levant, Maine

Penobscot county. This town lies principally on the S.W. side of Kenduskeag stream, by which and its tributaries it is well watered. The soil is good and productive.—The wheat crop of 1837 was 3,432 bushels. Levant lies 78 miles N.E. from Augusta and 10 N.W. from Bangor. Incorporated, 1813. Population, 1830, 747; 1837, 1,081.
