Damariscotta River, Maine
This river has its source in ponds in Jefferson and Nobleborough; its general course is southerly between Newcastle, Edgecomb and Boothbay, on the west, and Bristol on the east. It is navigable for vessels of any burthen 16 miles, to the bridge which crosses it between Newcastle and Nobleborough. Large quantities of lumber descend, and many merchant ships are built, on this broad and navigable arm of the sea.
