Memphremagog Lake, Vermont
This lake is about 30 miles in length, and two or three miles in width. About seven miles of it lies within the county of Orleans, the residue in Canada. It receives the waters of Barton, Black, Clyde and other smaller streams in Vermont, and discharges into the St. Francis, in Canada. On an island in this lake is a quarry of Novaculite, or "Magog Oil Stone." This material is transported and manufactured. See Burke, Vt.
