Tolland, Connecticut
Shire town of Tolland county. This town has a population of 1,700 inhabitants and is situated on the nearest mail route from Hartford to Boston. Its products are English grain, grass, potatoes, &c. It contains two small woolen manufactories, with water power sufficient to operate a greater number of corresponding machinery. It lies 18 miles E.N.E. from Hartford, 17 N. from Windham, 27 W.N.W. from Brooklyn, and 30 N. from Norwich. The land is rather sterile, mountainous, and uneven. The inhabitants are industrious and intelligent.
