Columbia, Maine

Washington county. At the head of tide water, on the W. side of Pleasant river. It is a very large township, well provided with mill seats, and was settled soon after the revolutionary war. It lies 15 miles W. from Machias and 120 E. by N. from Augusta. Columbia has considerable trade, particularly in lumber. Population, 1837, 793.
