Elizabeth Islands, Massachusetts

These islands are attached to Dukes county and lie between Buzzard's bay and Vineyard sound. They are 16 in number. The largest, Nashawn [Naushon] and Nashawenna, are inhabited. Gosnold, the discoverer of Cape Cod, spent the winter of 1602-3, on one of these islands.
