The people are generally industrious farmers, who find the cultivation of the earth the best source of independence. Readfield is a very pleasant town, and its vicinity to the Kennebec gives it many advantages. It lies 11 miles W. from Augusta. Population, 1837, 2,019. Wheat crop, same year, 6,391 bushels.
